Author Guidelines
Manuscripts submitted to Heritage Technology and Applied Science (HTAS) must be submitted through the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Authors are required to register and log in before submitting a manuscript.
Authors should ensure that their profile information in OJS is complete and accurate, including name, affiliation, email address, country, and other required information.
- Manuscripts should be written in clear and academically appropriate English.
- The manuscript should present original research, scholarly analysis, or an applied study relevant to the scope of HTAS.
- The manuscript should not have been previously published or be under consideration by another journal.
- Authors are responsible for ensuring that all information, data, citations, figures, tables, and references are accurate.
- The manuscript should follow the structure and formatting requirements described in these guidelines and the official HTAS template.
Manuscripts submitted to HTAS should generally contain the following sections:
- Title
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Introduction
- Methods
- Results and Discussion
- Conclusion
- Declarations / Author Contributions
- References
The title should clearly and concisely describe the main subject of the research. It should identify the central topic, technology, scientific approach, heritage context, or research problem addressed by the manuscript. Titles should be informative, specific, and suitable for an international academic audience.
The abstract should provide a concise and self-contained summary of the manuscript. It should communicate the research background or problem, objective, methodology, principal findings, and conclusion or contribution.
The abstract should normally be written in 150–250 words and should not contain citations, detailed references to tables or figures, or unnecessary background information.
Authors should provide 3–5 keywords that represent the principal concepts, technologies, methods, heritage domains, or research themes discussed in the manuscript. Keywords should be specific and preferably reflect terminology used in the title and abstract.
The introduction should establish the research context and explain the significance of the problem being investigated. It should discuss relevant previous studies, identify the research gap, establish the rationale for the study, and clearly state the research objective or research questions.
The methods section should describe clearly how the research was conducted. It should provide sufficient information regarding the research design, study object or context, data sources, data collection procedures, analytical methods, and other procedures necessary to understand and, where appropriate, reproduce the study.
The results section should present the principal findings of the research objectively and clearly. Tables, figures, diagrams, photographs, maps, models, or other appropriate visual materials may be used to support the presentation of results.
The discussion should interpret the findings in relation to previous research, relevant theories, the research objectives, and the broader implications for heritage, technology, science, society, or practice. The discussion should clearly explain the contribution and significance of the findings.
The conclusion should directly address the research objectives or questions and summarize the principal findings and contributions of the study. Where appropriate, authors may also identify limitations and suggest directions for future research.
Authors should provide the appropriate declarations required by the journal, including information concerning authorship, contributions, conflicts of interest, funding, data availability, ethical considerations, and other relevant statements where applicable.
For multi-author manuscripts, the contribution of each author should be clearly identified. All authors should have approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission and publication.
References should be relevant to the research topic and appropriately integrated into the manuscript. Authors are encouraged to use recent primary sources, including peer-reviewed journal articles, academic books, conference proceedings, official reports, and other authoritative scholarly sources.
Authors must ensure that every source cited in the manuscript appears in the reference list and that every reference listed is cited in the text. The citation and reference format should follow the style specified in the official HTAS manuscript template.
Tables and figures should be clear, readable, and directly relevant to the research. Each table and figure should have an appropriate title or caption and should be referred to in the main text. Images, maps, diagrams, photographs, 3D models, digital reconstructions, and other visual materials should be provided at sufficient quality for publication.
- The manuscript must represent original scholarly work.
- The manuscript must not be simultaneously submitted to another journal.
- Appropriate permission must be obtained for copyrighted images, datasets, photographs, maps, or other third-party materials.
- Authors must properly acknowledge and cite all sources used in the research.
- Any potential conflict of interest should be disclosed transparently.
Before submitting a manuscript to HTAS, authors should ensure that:
- The manuscript is original and has not been published previously.
- The manuscript is not currently under consideration by another journal.
- The manuscript follows the required HTAS structure and formatting.
- The title, abstract, keywords, main text, tables, figures, and references have been checked carefully.
- All citations appearing in the manuscript are included in the reference list.
- All figures, tables, images, and other visual materials are properly numbered and referenced in the manuscript.
- Author information and required metadata have been completed correctly in the OJS submission system.
- The manuscript has been carefully checked for language, formatting, consistency, and ethical compliance before submission.
